"Forget Not; You are Forgiven"
from "Prayer Changes Everything" Devotion for Today · host Y.E.S. Jesus Youth Encountering Savior Jesus
Sept. 23, 2026 Daily Devotional: "Forget Not; You are Forgiven" Psalm 103:1-3 "Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases." It is easy to worship when circumstances are easy, but David begins Psalm 103 by talking directly to himself. He doesn't wait for his emotions to catch up to his faith; instead, he commands his own soul—every scattered part of his inmost being—to align and praise God's holy name. Why? Because human nature is prone to spiritual amnesia. In the middle of life's friction, stress, and noise, our default tendency is to fixate on current problems and forget past grace. Verse 2 issues a urgent warning: "forget not all his benefits." Gratitude requires intentional memory. Human nature is prone to forgetting past kindnesses when facing immediate trials. David calls for deliberate gratitude, treating active remembrance as a safeguard against spiritual amnesia and bitterness. David immediately lists the ultimate "benefits" that ground our faith, regardless of changing circumstances. There is complete forgiveness, not just the minor oversights, but the deep failures and hidden guilt. In Christ, your debt is erased entirely, restoring your relationship with God. There is restoration in healing, He heals all your diseases. Whether that healing comes through physical recovery, emotional restoration, or the ultimate ultimate renewal reserved for eternity, God is by nature a healer. Praise is not a passive reaction to good circumstances; it is an active decision to fix your eyes on an unchanging God. When life feels heavy, you don't have to wait for your feelings to align before you worship. Speak to your soul, remember His mercy, and give thanks for the grace that has already carried you this far. Psalm 103:1–3 is a song of self-encouragement and personal worship written by King David. It centers on reminding oneself to praise God sincerely and intentionally for His character and His direct actions. The passage serves as a framework for gratitude: actively directing your mind to praise God with your whole heart, intentionally recalling His past faithfulness, and finding assurance in His power to forgive and restore. Conduct a memory audit and take five minutes today to write down three specific moments in your life where God forgave you, provided for you, or brought you through a difficult season. Command your mind when anxiety or discouragement sneaks in, pause and repeat verse 2 aloud: "Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits." Shift your internal dialogue from what you lack to what God has already given.
