At most we should treat them like a person does the warning light in a vehicle. Stop, assess what the problem is, address it as best you can, and move on. Seeking forgiveness is the human version of this process. There are at least three types of sins or shortcomings where we need to seek forgiveness. Sometimes we knowingly and intentionally do wrong. By wrong, I mean anything we do not coming from a place of love, and often at the expense of someone else. There are some other times when we really have good intentions, but our words and actions fall woefully short of fulfilling those intentions… be it for a lack of maturity, a lack of judgment, a lack of discipline, or just a lack of understanding and experience. A third type of sin are the ones we a blind to or where we no longer smell our own stink. Acknowledging that there very well may be these areas in our lives as well is a prerequisite for transformation and redemption. Our seeking forgiveness is the first step in the process of our overcoming sin. I’m Horace McMillon.
