Forgiven - 1 John 1:8-10
from Cyril Guerette — Sermons & Teaching
The Groundswell Church, Identity Reality · 1 John 1 “And so what we hear here is that, in order to experience the power of forgiveness in our life, I need to confess, like I said. That's why we're doing it. That's why it's part of who we are, and we need to let go. And so it's important — that we'll get a little bit to this later — it's important that you practise confession of your sin. … I would even argue daily is the best. … Get that off your heart. Get that off your conscience, and look what he will do. He will purify us from all unrighteousness. This is important — because a lot of people — they feel so beholden to patterns of sin that they're, like — I'll never be able to get rid of this. This will always be who I am. First of all — it's not who you are. Second of all — you will be purified. You have hope. He will deliver you from this.” Passage: 1 John 1:8–10 Read the post: https://www.cyrilguerette.com/sermon-blog/2023-04-23-i-am-forgiven In the shadow of the love and forgiveness of the cross, the light of the Resurrection brings forth a new reality for all those who believe in Jesus. The fact that Jesus is Risen changes everything. It is the promise that we are a New Creation, that we are no longer called sinners but friends. Through faith in Jesus the reality of our identity is that we are saints, a people chosen to be the children of God who will reign with Christ when he returns to set all things new and right. With this new identity we are empowered to face all the lies and attacks that besiege our minds, hearts and spirits, and live in lockstep with the God who defines reality forever.
