Forgiveness by Kai-Anne Clews

from Original Christian Poetry · host Kai-Anne Clews

Forgiveness means "I set you free." But it also means "I also free me." Forgiveness means "I know you were wrong." But it also means "I don't want to prolong, This pain inside, this pain I feel, Let me break this burning, turning wheel. Let me breathe freedoms air, It doesn't matter if you don't care; I will not be locked up, Any longer in your snare. Forgiveness is painful, But not so painful as holding on, Not as soul-destroying as waiting and hoping, That the one who hurt you will see you coping, And being strong. Forgiveness says " I forgive you for what you took by force, " But it doesn't mean that I endorse, Your selfishness and your taboo, That is just par for the course, When interacting with you. Forgiveness says "If I see you in Heaven I won't be mad, I won't be angry, I won't be sad. It'll mean He worked on you, Just like He worked on me; The Lord of mercy who sets the captives free." Forgiveness means "I let it go." Though I've sighed and I've cried, I continue to grow, A fire flower blossoming, Amid the snow.
