Mark 6:1 “Jesus left there and went to his hometown, accompanied by his disciples. v. 2 “When the Sabbath came, he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were amazed.” “Where did this man get these things?” they asked. “What’s this wisdom that has been given him? What are these remarkable miracles he is performing? v. 3 “Isn’t this the carpenter? Isn’t this Mary’s son and the brother of James, Joseph, Judas and Simon? Aren’t his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. v. 4 “Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his own town, among his relatives and in his own home.”   ·        “Without honor”: atimos (at'-ee-mos); to dishonor; to treat as common or ordinary.   ·        “Honor”: time (tim-may’); to value, respect, or highly esteem; to treat as precious, weighty or valuable.   2. There is a Difference between Respect & Honor. v. 5 “He could not do any miracles there, except lay his hands on a few sick people and heal them.” v. 6 “He was amazed at their lack of faith.” 3. We are Called to Honor 3 Groups of People in the Bible:   A.  Our Parents.   Exodus 20:12 ““Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.”   B. Those in Authority.   Romans 13:7 “Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor.”   C. Our Pastors & Church Leaders.   I Timothy 5:17 “The elders who direct the affairs of the church well are worthy of double honor, especially those whose work is preaching and teaching.” Romans 12:10 “Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves.” 4. The Reason our Culture is Dishonoring is b/c People aren’t honoring God. Isaiah 29:13 “The Lord says: ‘These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me.’” 5. Honor is a condition of the H
