Formed By Grace
from Because of Jesus... · host Spencer Christian Church
What does it look like to live faithfully in the space between a promise already fulfilled and a glory not yet revealed? That is exactly the question Titus 2:11-15 places before us, and the answer is both grounding and galvanizing. The passage centers on two appearings of Jesus Christ -- the first in grace, when he entered our world to redeem us from sin, and the second in glory, when he will return as King. Between those two moments is where we live, and Paul makes clear that this in-between space is not meant to be a spiritual holding pattern. The grace that saved us does not clock out after conversion. It becomes our teacher, our trainer, forming us from the inside out -- teaching us to say no to ungodliness and yes to self-controlled, upright, and godly lives. The parallel to discipleship and sanctification is striking: one describes the path we walk with Jesus, the other describes the transformation God works within us as we walk it. Together they paint a picture of a life that is actively becoming something -- not through willpower alone, but through the ongoing work of grace. If we have ever wondered why obedience matters, or why the daily grind of spiritual growth is worth it, this passage gives us a compelling answer rooted not in obligation but in the reality of what Jesus has already done and the certainty of what he is coming to complete.
