Former Bishop of Broome convicted of sex crimes
from 7News Just In · host LiSTNR
Christopher Saunders, 76-year-old former Bishop of Broome, has been found guilty of 12 counts of indecent assault and one count of sexual penetration against three Aboriginal victims over 11 years. The case, which began after whistleblowing priests approached Seven News six years ago, triggered the first-ever Vatican investigation in Australia that identified Saunders as a sexual predator who possibly groomed up to 67 vulnerable young Aboriginal men. The Perth jury's verdict makes Saunders the highest-ranked Catholic official in history to be convicted of sex crimes, with sentencing pending and the case now headed to Rome for the Pope's consideration.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
