Nació en Buenos Aires en 1955. Comenzó estudiando fotografía en 1979, en la Escuela de Arte y Técnicas Audiovisuales de Avellaneda. Entre 1982 y 1995 trabajó como fotoperiodista para el diario La Voz, la Agencia Diarios y Noticias (DyN) y el diario Página 12. Entre numerosas distinciones, en 1991 obtuvo la beca Hasselblad, en 1995 la beca Guggenheim -otorgada por primer vez en fotografía en la Argentina-, en 1997 el Premio Mother Jones y en 2009 el Gran Premio Adquisición del Salón Nacional de Fotografía. En 2010 fue declarada Personalidad Destacada de la Cultura por la Legislatura de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires.
