Four Four Premiere: D-Knox - DAT Rip 06 [Sonic Mind]

Our second premiere of the day comes from formative US techno producer D-Knox as he returns to the archives serving up four previously unreleased tracks on his Sonic Mind imprint. We premiere ‘DAT Rip 06’ a funk-driven electro groove that’s reminiscent of classy Miami bass. D-Knox (a.k.a. Donnell Knox) delves back into the archives for ‘DAT Rips Vol. 2’, the follow-up to Vol. 1 (SM-39), which he released in 2020. The new EP features four more previously unreleased tracks, now rediscovered, mastered, and sounding just as fresh as the day they were made. The legendary Donnell Knox has been making music for nearly 30 years since growing up in Michigan’s Kalamazoo (halfway between Detroit and Chicago) to his current location in Poland’s capital city of Warsaw where he continues to run his evergreen Sonic Mind label. We premiere ‘DAT Rip 06’, a fast-paced trip through electro rhythms as he turns away from squealing techno to focus on a syncopated piece of broken funk. The track thrives on its jarring percussion elements that have been meticulously programmed and layered, creating a dynamic and energetic slice of club-driven Kalamazoo electro.
