Frame Trap - Episode 29 "What We Want Out of Video Game Stories"

from Frame Trap · host Easy Allies

CORRECTIONS AND TIMESTAMPS IN DESCRIPTION On today's Frame Trap, the panel ruminates about video game storytelling and states what they appreciate most about their favorite gaming narratives. We also spend plenty of time discussing games including Fire Emblem Echoes, Prey, What Remains of Edith Finch, and more! Corrections - Hey everyone. When I was listening back to the episode, I noticed I made a few errors when discussing my personal games during the "what we've been playing" segment. If there's anything I missed, don't hesitate to let me know. -Ben Fire Emblem Echoes - Mages CAN attack units in adjacent tiles in other Fire Emblem games and the impression I gave is that they don't or that it's abnormal. They don't in Fire Emblem Heroes which I've been playing a fair amount of recently and it's the thing that was probably tripping me up. It was a dumb error. Sorry about that. Cosmic Star Heroine - I thought I mentioned this in the episode, but just to be clear, characters can do a defensive action to "refresh" single-charge moves. So the water move that I mentioned can be used again as long as you refresh it first. Monster Hunter XX - With alchemy style, I said that it takes more time to reach a higher number of shakes, so for example the meter will fill more slowly between shakes two and three than shakes one and two. However, this is wrong. After timing it, it seems as though the meter fills up at the same rate. TIMESTAMPS (Now game specific!) 07:17 - What has Bloodworth been playing? 07:25 - Forza Horizon 3: Hot Wheels 16:05 - Little Nightmares 23:04 - What Remains of Edith Finch / Unfinished Swan 47:30 - Persona 5 01:06:23 - The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 01:11:42 - What has Ian been playing? 01:11:45 - Heroes of the Storm 01:20:20 - Conarium 01:22:57 - Nier: Automata 01:37:23 - What has Huber been playing/watching? 01:37:27 - Prey 01:57:24 - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 02:06:45 - What has Ben been playing? 02:07:08 - Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia 02:20:15 - Cosmic Star Heroine 02:31:57 - Monster Hunter XX 02:41:54 - HOTTAKE: What do we want out of our video game stories? 03:19:22 - Emails

This time we're making a run of film reviews. Now, we're not sticking to the rules of talking only about what is popular or hot in the cinema. We have a responsabilty to find all kinds of films, especially those that may be slipping through the gaps, or movies that we loved that nobody seems to remember. So from old to the new, from the bizarre and the downright bad. We're going to sit through all that we can, and on a weekly basis, you can listen to our banter: coming from not only film fanatics, but lovers of the craft. We don't claim to be experts, but we do have a point of view. Mostly, we're doing this because it is fun and I hope you find that is true for you.
