Fran Brown’s Tough Love After Cal Loss | Syracuse Orangemen Football News

Fran Brown’s no-nonsense coaching is hitting hard after Syracuse’s brutal 18-21 loss to Cal — and he’s not backing down. With 27 penalties in two games, accountability is the name of the game, even for kicker Tripp Woody after two missed field goals. Brown treats his players like kids needing real-world prep, not sugarcoated pep talks. He’s sticking with QB Steve Angeli despite three interceptions, focusing instead on the young offensive line’s need for experience — while praising reserve tackle Naquil Betrand for stepping up. The bright spot? Freshman Calvin Russell III, recovering from a torn Achilles, is close to returning, already running routes and hitting key strength benchmarks. With just a short week and a road showdown against Pittsburgh looming, Syracuse has no time for excuses — the true test is coming under the lights.
