She said, “time is slipping away as a man-made humanitarian crisis has turned Gaza into the abyss.”Kaag said “the continued lack of effective protection for civilians in Gaza is unconscionable” and stressed that “the infrastructure that civilians rely on must be protected and their essential needs met.”The humanitarian official said, “the outbreak of polio is also a stark reminder of the desolate conditions of life in the Gaza Strip. Comprising the largest body of independent experts in the UN Human Rights system, Special Procedures is the general name of the Council's independent fact-finding and monitoring mechanisms that address either specific country situations or thematic issues in all parts of the world. Special Procedures experts work on a voluntary basis; they are not UN staff and do not receive a salary for their work.
