Francine Cunningham, a Cree, Metis writer, artist and educator discusses how her journey of self-discovery and family histories have influenced her work. Her most recent book, on/me, (Caitlin Press, 2019) is telling of Francine's life that has collected many beautiful, challenging and rich experiences as an Indigenous woman that she has encountered throughout her life. Though Francine has survived grief and loss, she has drawn from the beauty and strength of her cultures to thrive through her artistic gifts and share her creative spirit with many Indigenous youth and communities. Francine is a nurturer as this is evident in her teaching practice where she creates safe and caring spaces for her students. Francine inspires us to think about how we can access the arts to heal ourselves and to rediscover who we are and where we come from.
