Oh Which would be cool. Are they making non-alcoholic bonk hits these days? Mmm, that is if you miss the bomb experience dude. Yeah, you're making a joke that I really just contemplated like would I do a non-alcoholic bonk rate right now?
Maybe I might hit that shit with you Yeah, I don't want to do it because I like having my lungs back and I come on one bonk hit Yeah, no, you're not you're right. I've won bonk hit would not hurt my lung capacity at all and yeah But I just think it's kind of like, you know, I'm alcohol I don't really care for non-alcoholic beer either like there was a time and when I like to non-alcoholic beer It was because it was only a matter of time before I got a real beer in me Like I felt like it was actually bad for me There were some people that I knew that were in the sober thing that were all about them and they when we would go somewhere They would have like four or five of those and it does say it's got five point five percent alcohol in it So if you have five you kind of had a beer, you know, yeah, it's like what three percent total right? So I'm kind of like wait, did you guys are you guys? Yeah, a little bit and I'm like if you can't if you have to if you have to have a fake one Five fake ones to hang out with everybody else not and I don't want to this is not facts.
It's just my opinion You need to work on your sobriety better because to me if I'm like if I see you ever be like, oh, man I don't want to live like that, you know, like I got my sobriety to the point where if you smoke weed in front of me I'm happy for you, but I don't want it, you know, if I want it I'm miserable because you've got it and I don't have it And I'm like at this point. I'm like, well, I don't know if it's working for you or not I'm not trying to like read your life and see what you know, what's good and what's bad about you I'm more worried about like my angle on it I'm like it is bad for me if I do it tomorrow is not as potentially as good as it could be and I am done I need it to be potentially as good as it can be so I don't want to drink and I don't want to smoke weed the end My family owned a dive bar first my animal. Sorry Michael. They do they do have it.
Oh, no no I like they have CBD weed. Yeah, CBD like right drinks and stuff and they also have like like the joints They have CBD joints. They used to be because that was the Nick Nadeas did it at a press conference Which was which I which I in my opinion I don't know for sure, but he lit one up after the fight now like dude You're smoking weed at the press companies like it's CBD. Yeah, and I'm like oh, that's brilliant because no it isn't But if you say that like what are you gonna do?

TCA is just um so when they're like growing weed as it grows it goes from THC THC that's what like the crystals on the plant so if they trap it down at a certain point It's still has a lot of THC a and that's kind of like the loopholes they're using to get through and like Texas and all these places Where they're just kind of like it's not weed it's a key yeah, but it's not as good as like fully mature Okay, so it's just weaker weed. Yeah, yeah, is it what I can triple up and I keep the clothes on yeah, yeah, yeah Yeah, it's like in Australia. We see cold and leafy's okay means it's not bad It's the leaf yeah Yeah, yeah, cuz there was tons in the show you know tons of tough where some of us had weed that were the male plant Yeah, yeah, it's not it's not as it didn't bother up It's just the late like you know the t-shirt the bar go the sticker of the marijuana leaf That's not good weight that you want the one that's the butt.
That's that's the female right so the male yeah, I do That's catnip right that's what they always told us was that the male plant was catnip no no But catnip is a relative of the weed plant the same way hops is a relative towards the weed plant How do you know that I'm a huge donor but also used to be a huge fan of beers and microbrews He's working at a beer garden when I was a 21 their whole thing was they had like 250 beers 100 on tap But it was beers from all over the world so I got to drink like stuff from like Belgium stuff from Australia Like stuff from just different countries. That was also the time that I became the most like alcoholic Funny coincidence. Yeah, I don't drink anymore either I don't I mean I really don't drink often it takes a lot to have me like and even if I do I have like maybe a sip But when I was at the store that's when I drank the most and that's when I was like I gotta stop Because I was a door guy there and it was like tons of bartenders, you know Everybody you're working this four hour shift six hour shift and then you go to each bar and you're like gonna get a shot Yeah, and then by the end of the night you're like five six shots deep and you're like a yeah That's a that's how I know from doing open mics lately that I'm gonna catch people faster than the average beer because there's a social thing in comedy Where you go from one to the other you have a beer you smoke a joint the alleyway and it's you know You hang out and you shoot the shit and I'm like yeah It's like I get it I did that in skateboarding and people caught me and passed me Yeah And when I if I was there to skateboard and then go home and eat right and go to sleep so that I can skateboard better The next day you don't want to put that guy a hundred percent You know just because comedy's not like doing backflips doesn't mean it doesn't mean the same thing applies like a New game Yeah, there was a I remember when I was working the store as a door guy Shappelle was on stage and he popped in and she fell Lacey day Shappelle Okay, he was on stage. He was doing well and he just looks out the small mirror in the or you know There's a like window out in the patio and he's like look at all these comics He was like just talking hanging out He's like most of these guys ain't gonna make it Wow And it was such a true statement because as a door guy There was like like there was this thing of like we would always crack jokes Or it was just like the guys working the club are going up and doing stuff Yeah, most of the people that are doing spots are like going up doing spots leaving the people that are hanging out on the patio Yeah, they're just they're not working.
They're not doing shows They're just like chilling see that's that's one of the great things that I got from being an athlete is I at one point I was super focused and went above and beyond and I and I got better Expedentially like out of nowhere. I was real good Yeah, and then I got a little bit hype behind me like some free stuff and some money and it was like hey Let's party after the contest. I was like hell yeah, we should and then before it to me before I knew it There were these little rats that were like I mean I'm fine I had to beat this kid right now and there was a time there I was like that couple never come close to me and I was like right mental note, you know By then I was already addicted and I was like yeah, he can beat me Yeah, I was like he just looking way down okay with it But seeing and getting to do it again in a different form ice the competitive Nature that I have where I see that I'm like oh yeah, I don't I don't I'm too old I don't have time to be social with you guys no I have to figure I had to do this in the next 10 years I'll be dead so I don't have 20 like the rest of you have I have half your time Yeah, I was never and I don't even look at me But I was never like a huge athlete my father was my father was a big baseball player Yeah, really good baseball player almost went pro and then he had an injury and then he also had me young but When it came to like comedy and roasting and stuff that was like the thing that I was like oh I'm like I like I really take this seriously yeah Yeah, so like when I won the roast battle I remember After the first night it was a lot of our first times on TV and stuff yeah And a lot of people were like oh it's gonna be after party on stuff And then I remember I was kind of like all right I gotta get out of here So I gotta go right and then what and then it was just feeling of everybody being like oh this is serious Like we're all taking the serious and everyone like people some people didn't go to the after parties They just focused on the tournament dude I have a joke about Tony Hawk and myself when we used to compete with each other and there was a time there where after the contest He would usually win it made pretty much every time he would win and I would get top 10 Yeah, and I would leave and go get cocaine and hookers and when I would leave I would look up and see him still skating And I would say to myself I would shake my hand go what a loser And then part of the joke is like there is no Jason Ellis pro skater There's Tony Hawk's pro skater and so I'm not saying it's entirely because of that But did it have something like a little bit to do with it? Hell yeah, it did like he was like no And he and then he told me later on when we started hanging out more past like when he was already like Tony Hawk that there was a time There when there was another guy that was equal to him in popularity and they both used to compete where it sometimes he would win Sometimes the other guy would win and there was a time where that guy got into the party thing And then they both went to Japan got paid a bunch of money to go Japan just those two and he Went to his room and he's like I'm gonna hang out in a party or whatever you're gonna hang out And so I was like no man I'm gonna go to bed for the you know I'm gonna demo tomorrow and then he went to bed came back knocked on the door and said when he went in there that the bed was Still made like he hadn't slept in it because he'd been awake all night doing drugs and that that guy eventually dropped off Wasn't competing then went to jail for 10 years for having a bunch of this drug on him now He's good, but when you when you compare like I'm not gonna say the name I idolize this guy too But he doesn't have a video game.
He doesn't he's doing good now Based off how legendary he was in the 80s that now that he's sober and a good guy now He still makes money, but he's not he ain't doing no Starbucks commercial I'm just some way like what Tony does like Tony's a household name Yeah And that's because he never and he said like those people Taught him not to do that because I remember thinking you just you're not that guy He said we're talking about I would love to party with it like what he's a guy and man like I like I like I like to hang out and be cool Like I just was like skateboarding means more to me than that and I was like wow yeah cuz it really worked out Yeah, it is once you find out what means more to you What do you really care and then you start to see the people that are like oh you get distracted and the crazy thing It's like ten years later. You'll see those same people especially in comedy. They'll be like angry and bitter I don't understand and then you haven't been doing the work. Yep.

Yeah, yeah, she was with me when I started doing stand-up and then she's been with me ever since so she's seen the whole thing It's also a psychology our therapist and she works in rehab. Oh wow. She's like she's got specializations in a trauma eating disorders LGBTU stuff. I'm sure there's a much more official title and then like alcohol and substance abuse I find it interesting when you have somebody in your life who has that particular set of skills like my wife's best friend is a Therapist and I kind of have to care what she thinks about me because she's my wife's best friend And I'm hyper aware when I the way that I come across to her It's like everybody gets a little angry sometime, but it's like she's a therapist like you yet There's this weird level of wanting to be on your best behavior because they can break you down in a whole different sort of way Like does that come up in your relationship?
Like are you aware the fact that your wife has like oh clinical terms for what's wrong with you? Oh, yeah, absolutely So because also like my family is all Mexican They all drink a lot and like my dad's an alcoholic and he's like skins are like Australians. Yeah. Yeah, that's why when you said they're like the big parties And stuff I was like yeah, no, I hundred percent get that that's why I relate to mexicans the most in this country No, no, yeah, everything they do.

Yeah, we like to do this I'm like I'm right. Let's do that why we're waiting for the fourth of July for Yeah, I just set it off It's May 8th blow some up yeah, dude. I'll be doing um, but yeah, no, there's times where I'll ask her I'll be like I'll she'll never just give it to me for free like I'll have to ask her and I'll just be like What do you think of this and then she'll like you want to answer is like my wife or like do you want me give you like my honest opinion? I was like alright and stuff like that and there's also like a lot of like stuff with like my mom and my dad and it's like Things that I've had to do to like recognize not what's wrong with him But like the work that they still need to have to do or just like the things that like I know like like a big point of contention And with me and my mom especially right now like I love her to death I have siblings and sometimes I feel she's too rough on them And she's just too like strict and you know and she'll be like are they lied like and I'm like alright like what about them like They want they didn't take out the trash or do their homework.
I'm like yeah, man. That's teenager Yeah, you know what I mean? But with her specifically her mom died when she was like young so she was raised by her sisters Were they weren't the nicest people right? So it was just kind of like I'm like yeah You're still stuck in like that survival mode.
Yeah, and then now you have you live in the suburbs You got a good husband you got like your kids like you're safe You know what I mean? Yeah, but she still doesn't know how to like not be like that angry mom who's like we have to survive It's an instinct now a hundred percent. Yeah, so I was just trying to get her to like recognize that it's like Hey, man, it's okay. Like it's okay to like just like be patient They're not like zero hundred because no one listen to you.
Do you find it hard to win arguments with your wife? Ah, you know what we don't have arguments because she nullifies it before it stops No, because it's like we have like discussions. Okay, like we'll like she'll it's kind of nice to be in a position We're like we'll talk about stuff and we'll like talk it out And it was a big like change for me because like I come from a family just throws things and fights and yells and yeah My mom will like say the meanest shit she can do you mean my dad like avoid it? You know, whereas like with her I remember the first time I like raised my voice.
She just started crying and I was like, oh fuck You know, I was like, oh, come on. You can't hear the guy's that that's cheating. Yeah, I was like, oh, she also could cry at any emotion That's over a six happiness anger excitement. So I've had to like, you know, I've had to work on myself and Like me.
Yeah, but through that it's it's also given me a lot of like empathy and understanding and also knowing where like she comes from and like What like my intentions of things are like and it's tough, but it's also like if it's someone you love It's like the work you're willing to do you know what I mean? Yeah, I also saw my parents not work out for so long and like all this fighting and the more that we grow is like a couple I started to realize was like, okay, they just didn't want to do the work or other things You know how not to do it 100% right. Yeah, yeah, and you can learn from that Yeah, like as long as you finally catch on that that's not working. Yeah, and you're like well, you know I know how to do it incorrectly so many times that I definitely think where I should go another round 100% Yeah, and if you see somebody that's like doing it like that, you're like, okay, I want to teach me that yeah I'm doing that.
Yeah, I mean to that you guys and have kids I you know, I want to have kids my wife's sister just had a kid And it's been real fun being a big deal. Yeah, and just get a hairless cat. It's like a baby. Yeah.
Yeah, well We got two cats I might get a hairless cat after this episode but I I do want kids I just you know, I mean, it's just there's so many things that could go wrong, you know, wow way to look at it Of course you could say that about literally anything of course But it's like my wife you're her biggest thing and I even say it's always irrational But she's worked with so many kids from different backgrounds rich kids poor kids all that stuff and she's like it really doesn't matter what Background they come from like you can just still fuck up a kid accidentally. Yeah, and she's like that's like my biggest She's like I just want to fuck up my kid. We're gonna regardless well She's obviously got a lot of confirmation bias in her work people don't send her kid to therapy because they're doing awesome. Yeah, good point With the roasting thing you said you were kind of naturally good at it No, I was I mean I talked a lot of shit in my head But my family we always like my comfort like a family of shit doggers When I started hanging around the store that's kind of like when I kind of started to learn and put it together because it was like Hey, so stray ho Tony hinge lift at the times Moses all these like guys that are bigger now But when I was coming around we're like my junior senior upperclassmen Okay, so like I came around right when Tony stopped being a door guy right when Moses kind of stopped being a door guy And they like started their shows like I was on the first six episodes like kill Tony Okay, so when roast battle kind of started around the same time I like would do the music and then I'd like I learned how to like roast and put together But like I watched a lot of the roasts and all that jazz and then once I like really started figure out it helped Me become a better writer right yeah So you think you got better roasting and understanding that just because you were in involved in this show then you watched it And I saw it and I think it was after like maybe like the fourth or sixth week I was like I think I want to do it and that was when it was just an open mic and before it was even called roast battle Okay, because it was literally an open mic for I think like six months And it was like a segment that would be due in the middle of the open mic Yeah, and then it became the roast battle because it was like a thing that Happened at the open mic that was so big that everyone would show up Okay, people would do stand up before the roast battles and it would get to a point where everyone was so excited to see the Rose battle They wouldn't give a fuck what you were doing so you'd like really have to crush yeah, or if you were bad people just like get the fuck about It was crazy.
It was all comics so I was no real audience people It was very like a fight club element. It's very intimidating to me like I'm new obviously money like four or five years in the game And I think I think at the very start maybe first two years somebody asked me if I wanted to do it in Ontario And I was like no I'm like I barely know how to do my own set when I do it anybody else and I'm from somewhere where it you know We I used to talk shit like I grew up being an asshole in skateboarding like I would tear people apart on the regular But it was also Completely acceptable that if you went too hard that you could fight yeah, and I'm like well I'm I'm not proud of it But like you know in my background I fought sometimes you know like if you punch me I'll punch you back motherfucker like yeah So it's so having that in comedy where I'm like we're having fun and we're being funny and like I'm afraid one of my Combat is like I fucked your mum you dumb bit like a fucking headbutt you right now. I'm like that's not funny Dude, that's just that's just like street fight talk And I'm like I don't know if I have the brain capacity to like keep it funny and also like in experience like I don't have Jokes and my confidence to to think that what I'm about to say is gonna be funny Just me yeah, and I'm like I watch enough to know just being mean is not what it's about But recently Brianna uses my account sometimes and she's trying to get me work and she's me sometimes That's a great little thing. I just go I just go on there and I see rose battle go yeah, man We'll have you on I'm like wait what on what and I'm like oh I don't know about that and but I won't I never back at anything so I was like yeah Okay, like who do you want to battle and I don't I'm being honest right now dude I didn't know that you guys pick another person to battle Yeah, I thought you just like literally just walked up and then the other person walked up and you go hey man Nice shoes like you know like I was like that's I don't feel confident about that Yeah, and then I go see the guy go who do you want to battle and I go no no no no no no no no no I know I know I know Angie who's the roast battle champion and I go well I know Angie and then like yeah, maybe not and then Who else do I know?
Yeah, that's it I never ate her like girls like I don't want to fight girls that's like all I could think of and then Angie was like Look I'll battle you but it can't be for the belt I'm like I don't know why you're worried about the belt like you're the champion and I don't know what I'm doing I feel like you're gonna be okay Sure if you feel like you want to leave that I get it cuz you don't want to yeah Somebody who's never done it to have a title fight that's I get it but she's like you sure you want to do it But you don't know if you know this but she does riffraff and she always tries to arm wrestle me Like I don't know where this started like it's her own thing where one day she just comes by and she's like kind of Puffed up a little bit and I'm like and I know we're pretty well, but not that well and I'm like what's going on She's like you and me where I'm wrestling cuz I mean I'm wrestling changing and I was like really and she's like yeah Why and I'm like I don't know just think like what you like a hundred pounds like I You're gonna lose like a pretty sure I feel confident you're gonna lose and the first time we are so I can't look Behind me because I was like this is a setup.
