Frank Morris Podcast Interview

from OldTimeHockeyUK Podcast · host Ken Abbott

Former Ayr Bruins, Fife Flyers, Murrayfield Racers and Trafford Metros forward Frank Morris joins the show to reflect on a UK career that began with one of British hockey's most dramatic arrivals. After five standout years with the Concordia Stingers—earning Hall of Fame induction—Frank signed with the Winnipeg Jets before opting for Europe. His first UK attempt ended in chaos when visa issues saw him deported on arrival, only to return a month later, legally, to join Ayr Bruins. Frank spent four strong seasons in Ayr, highlighted by a shock 1989 Wembley semi-final win over Durham Wasps, before moving to Fife Flyers, helping them regain Premier League status. A season with Murrayfield Racers followed, lifting the Benson & Hedges Cup, before financial collapse ended the campaign. After a brief Trafford spell, Frank returned to Fife, where he became captain, enjoyed major BNL success including a Grand Slam, and retired in 2003. He received a testimonial and had his number 47 jersey retired—a rare Flyers honour. Post-playing, Frank coached in the UK before returning to Canada, where he now runs a successful hockey academy in Ontario.
