Fraternity Hazing Led to Fatal Alcohol Poisoning | Washington DC News
from Washington DC News Today | 2 Min News | The Daily News Now!
A 20-year-old fraternity member, Carter Eslick, just pleaded guilty to felony hazing linked to the death of 18-year-old Colin Martinez, who died from alcohol poisoning during a Delta Tau Delta initiation in Flagstaff. Eslick admitted he provided alcohol and led a drinking game that caused Martinez’s fatal blood alcohol level of .425—over five times the legal limit. Under a plea deal, he’ll get probation with up to a year in jail possible; he also forfeited his right to trial, witnesses, and appeals—and lost civil rights like voting. The victim’s family blames preventable hazing for the tragedy. Sentencing is set for September 30th, and the fraternity suspended operations after the incident came to light.
