Freaky Friday: Writing a Disney Classic ft. Heather Hach

Heather Hach, the screenwriter behind Freaky Friday (2003) and the book writer of Legally Blonde: The Musical, joins the podcast to talk about obsession, screenwriting, and the movies that shaped her life. We talk about how she went from journalism and improv comedy in Denver to winning the Disney Fellowship, the script she wrote about her own divorce that changed everything, and how producer Andrew Gunn — who she remembers so fondly — gave her her first real shot in Hollywood, which led directly to landing Freaky Friday as her first studio assignment.Heather also shares which character from Freaky Friday she identifies with most and why, what it was like adapting Legally Blonde for Broadway alongside Nell Benjamin, Laurence O'Keefe, and Jerry Mitchell, her close friendship with Amanda Brown (who created Elle Woods), and why she believes obsession is essential to doing anything well — whether it's screenwriting, parenting, or just being human.
