Can You stay newlyweds? What do you think of when you hear Freda Payne's, "Band of Gold"? The song was released in Feb. 1970. The record label was Invictus and the song was written by Edythe Wayne and Rod Dunbar. When I first heard the song, I heard it on the AM Station in the 80's as my mom was driving the car. She turned up the volume and said, "That's Freda Payne! Band of Gold! That's a good song!" And when I heard the music, I was hooked. Thanks to both my mom and daddy, I fell in love with oldies, and Freda Payne's song was a major hit in the 70's. And when I first heard "Band of Gold" in the 80's, it was brand new to my ears. An older person once said to me, "Get away from them oldies! Tune into some new jams!" But you better believe the person that said that to me tunes into those oldies too. There is nothing like the oldies. It's a good way to learn about love, life, and music. And all those remakes that we hear, where do you think they come from? I'll say it again. Ain't nothing like the oldies and ain't nothing like the great voice of Freda Payne coming from that strong sound of a vinyl record. (singing)Let me say......(singer)I'm Gail Nobles, and you're listening to a show about oldies.Oldies
