Free Expression Friday: Spreading Love for Black Books with Ramunda Lark-Young (Mahogany Books)
from BookED · host American Booksellers Association
Free Expression Friday is an interview series from ABA's American Booksellers for Free Expression celebrating the amazing work of booksellers, organizers, and book people in general fighting for the right to read. Ramunda Lark-Young is the co-founder and owner of Mahogany Books in Washington, DC. Ramunda and her husband founded Mahogany Books to continue the work Ramunda began when working at the Howard University Bookstore and as District Manager of Karibu Books in Washington, DC: making Black books available to as many people as possible. She spoke to ABFE about her journey, the store's mission, and how people and institutions can support Black-owned bookstores year-round — as well as some Valentines Day-appropriate discussion of owning a bookstore with her spouse. Follow the American Booksellers for Free Expression on Instagram at @ABFEFreeExpression to keep up with ABFE's advocacy efforts and tune into their Free Expression Friday series.
