Freeman vs Fickell at Lambeau | Wisconsin Badgers Football News

This Sunday’s showdown at Lambeau Field pits Wisconsin’s Luke Fickell against his former protégé, Notre Dame’s Marcus Freeman — a matchup steeped in history. Freeman, who served as Fickell’s defensive coordinator at Cincinnati from 2017-2021, rose to become Notre Dame’s head coach after Brian Kelly’s departure, building a stellar record with 43 wins and 12 losses, including a College Football Playoff title game appearance in 2024. Fickell, meanwhile, has a 17-21 record since taking over Wisconsin. It’s more than just a game — it’s a chance for Fickell to witness firsthand the success of a coach he helped shape, proving coaching trees can indeed bear national championship fruit.
