Friars Rebuild Under Hodgson | Providence Friars Basketball News

Providence Friars close out their 2025-26 season with a 15-18 record, ninth in the Big East, after a quarterfinal loss to St. John’s. New head coach Bryan Hodgson — a proven winner who led South Florida to conference titles and an NCAA tourney — brings fresh energy and a rebuild mindset. The roster is almost entirely overhauled, with top scorers Jaylin Sellers and Jason Edwards gone, leaving the Friars to rely on new talent like Miles Byrd, Devin Vanterpool, and Malik Mack, plus returning standout Ryan Mela. While athleticism and length are strengths, shooting efficiency remains a question mark with several new players hovering around 30% from three. Still, Hodgson’s pedigree and the infusion of talent position Providence as a rising contender in the Big East, poised to challenge for the middle of the pack.
