Friend or Foe?

My mindset has changed quite a lot over the past year; things I used to see as “good” have started to raise red flags. People I used to think were trustworthy seem to have ulterior motives that are NOT in the best interest of “We The People”. As my guest wisely points out: there’s a way to read the constitution with a limited government perspective and a way to read it as government is the answer.I’m surprised at how divided the Republican Party is over this issue. Specifically when it comes to the topic of “Public Safety”. Is it the governments job to protect us? Or is that every individuals responsibility? And if it is the government’s job, are there boundaries they should operate within to protect us? Who decides what the boundaries are? Who decides what/who is a threat? I would argue, if it is the governments job to protect us, nothing can really be off limits! Privacy would be a circumstantial privilege, not a constitutional right. But after decades of people relinquishing more and more personal responsibility to the government, I don’t know how well the country could survive without the government coming to “help”.You decide; are surveillance cameras and drones and shot detectors the answer to feeling safer?
