from Rethreading Lives Podcast · host Kristin Keen / Bishop Mark McGuire

Have you ever experienced a radical shift in the direction you were going in life? Have you ever encountered a moment so impactful that your entire perspective changed in an instant? Meet Bishop Mark McGuire, the Director of Discipleship, Outreach, and Evangelism at the Potter’s House and active gang prevention agent. As a self-proclaimed hope-pusher, Mark is a community exhorter through and through. But he wasn't always a pillar of good in the community. In fact, Mark spent the majority of his teenage years and early adulthood immersed in a life of addiction, dealing drugs, and involvement in criminal activities. In this episode, he tells the captivating story of his life as a drug addict and dealer and how God dramatically got his attention. After almost 15 years of being in a life of fear and shame, Mark was arrested, convicted, and sent to prison. As he lay on the ground the night of the arrest, he wept, knowing that this would be the turning point of his life. While serving his sentence, Mark’s perspective radically changed toward a new role of helping others from the life that had trapped him for so long. Now, as a gang prevention advocate, Mark is helping those most in danger of gang-related violence in the Jacksonville area. His riveting story is rich with the hope of living out a God-given purpose and the power of how a life can be transformed through intentional time, openness, and vision. He tells story after story of his work in gang prevention and his work in the community. You won't want to miss Mark’s phenomenal life story in this episode of Rethreading Lives.
