From FCS to Cougar Star | Spokane News

Jeremiah Bernard, a safety who transferred from FCS school Cal Poly to Washington State, is poised to start for the Cougars—thanks to a trusted connection with cornerbacks coach Brandyn Thompson. More than just a football move, Bernard’s journey reflects a disciplined mindset shaped by his parents’ lessons: prioritize growth over quick money and fame. His early experiences at Cal Poly, where losses overshadowed individual brilliance, taught him resilience and the value of internalizing the game. Now at WSU, he’s exploding on the field, making game-changing plays and earning praise from coaches for his coverage and relentless effort. With a laser focus on development and a hunger to be a playmaker, Bernard is ready to lead the Cougars this season—and prove that heart and hustle can outshine any obstacle.
