From Life to Legacy: The Story of Richard I. Bong

In this episode, Hailey shares the story of Major Richard I. Bong–the aces of aces–from his life to legacy. Richard I. Bong’s story all began in the small town of Superior, situated in Northern Wisconsin. Hailey explains that Richard worked on the Bong Family Farm, where he watched military planes fly overhead to the Summer White House, delivering mail to President Coolidge while he visited for many fishing excursions. Richard quickly became fascinated and dedicated his life to serve in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. Returning from war, Bong was recognized as America’s top-flying ace. In remembrance of Richard’s notorious and noble service, Superior opened the Richard I. Bong Veterans Historical Center.
