Send us Fan MailFrom Meaninglessness To Hope“I saw all the deeds that are done under the sun, and see, all is vanity and a chasing after wind.” - Ecclesiastes 1:14Most of the things that we spend our time worrying about, stressing over, don’t matter. Even we should live to become very accomplished, our accomplishments will be forgotten. The things we built today, will one day fall apart. Even if we should accumulate great wealth, we will leave every cent of it behind. In one of the non canonical gospels, Jesus is remembered as teaching that we are to be passers by. This means that we do not allow our personal identities and self worth to be determined by that status we’ve achieved or the things we have gained. All of this is dust. It’s fleeting. It’s meaningless. Recognizing the meaninglessness of all the things we are consumed with doing is the first step in the process of refocusing ourselves on what does matter: the kindness and compassion we share with one another as we journey through life. Hope emerges from meaninglessness when we let go of the things that don’t matter and focus on what does. As the hymn writer once wrote, “If I can help somebody along the way, then my living will not be in vain.”I’m Horace McMillon. This is 60 Seconds of Hope.
