From Miss America to Reproductive Endocrinologist & My Very Own Fertility Journey as an LBGTQ Woman feat. Dr. Deidre Gunn

from Fruitful & Multiplying · host Jewish Fertility Foundation

Today we had the incredible opportunity to talk with Dr. Deidre Gunn @deidregunnmd. Deidre is a Reproductive Endocrinologist at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), but she isn't just any Reproductive Endocrinologist.  She was crowned Miss America in 2005!  Deidre is the first openly gay Miss America and was bold and brave enough to share her personal experience going through IVF with her wife, Abbott with the world. Deidre shares with us what it was like going through IVF from the patient-side, which she learned was much different than her usual experience as the doctor. She shares her experience choosing a sperm donor, how she best supported her wife, and how she uses this experience to better connect with her patients. Deidre is very passionate about sharing her story so others don't feel alone.
