Before Daniel was even born, his father was tragically killed in a noncombat incident aboard his destroyer while stationed in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Though he never had the opportunity to meet him, his father’s service and sacrifice became a quiet but powerful part of Daniel’s story.Life would test Daniel again in ways few could imagine. After suffering a devastating spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed, he was faced with a reality that could have easily defined and limited his future.
