From Personal Struggle to Policy Change: Dawn Huckelbridge’s Mission for Paid Family Leave

Collette and Scott sit down with Dawn Huckelbridge, director of Paid Leave for All, to discuss the urgent need for paid family leave in the U.S., the only developed country in the world without a national policy. Dawn shares her personal story of founding the advocacy group, driven by her own caregiving experiences and the lack of support for workers. The conversation highlights how paid leave benefits not only workers and families but also strengthens businesses and the economy. Dawn explains how paid family leave improves mental health, reducing parental stress and fostering better long-term outcomes for both parents and children, particularly for new mothers and fathers. The episode also delves into the challenges of pushing for policy change and the steps needed to ensure paid leave becomes a reality for all, making it clear that paid leave is not just a family issue, but a vital economic and social issue for the future of the country.
