From Pipes to Powerhouses: The Kubota Story and Sales Lessons for CEOs | CEO Sales Huddle with Che Brown
from CEO Sales Huddle with Che Brown · host chebrown
Kubota Corporation began in 1890 in Osaka, Japan, during a time when pipelines were made to clean up tap water. Gonshiro Kubota decided to start the company by making these pipes and quickly faced challenges. They were just trying to improve people’s lives by giving them clean water. But how does a company that made pipes become a leader in agricultural machinery? In the 1940s, Kubota started to shift gears towards creating agricultural machinery. One interesting fact during this time is that the company’s first major product for farmers was a kerosene-fueled engine in 1922. Despite being innovative, they still had to fight through tough economic times, especially during the mid-70s. The demand was high, but resources were low. Imagine trying to sell a new product when the economy is not doing well – that was Kubota’s struggle. Kubota knew that to grow, they had to adapt. They expanded to the U.S. in the 1970s and insisted on their diesel engines, even when the market wanted petrol engines. This was a bold move that paid off, as Kubota’s diesel tractors became highly rated. They also created a fully-rotating mini back-hoe that revamped their sales system and production. Just like Kubota, having a strong sales system and the courage to stick to what you believe is better can lead to great success. My Big Takeaway: The importance of having a well-thought-out sales system. Whether it was sticking to diesel engines or innovating with new machinery, Kubota always had a strategy. As a CEO, developing a solid sales plan with clear strategies can drive revenue, maintain profitability, and positively impact lives. Just like Kubota’s journey from pipes to tractors emphasizes, your sales strategy should be adaptable and resilient, especially during tough times. This approach not only grows your revenue but also sustains your business in the long run. Join the www.CEOSalesHuddle.com for sales growth and business strategies. Stay Hungry. Stay Humble.
