From Psilocybin to Science: The Journey of Scott Ostuni

from The MycoGeeky Podcast · host mycoGeeky

Send us Fan MailTonight we sit down with Scott Ostuni, an amateur mycologist from Florida, to discuss how his early experiences with magic mushrooms took him down a path toward studying fungal taxonomy in the Southeastern United States.  Scott has co-published several papers on novel species he and other amateur mycologists have found while roaming around their local habitats.  He is on the NAMA DNA Sequencing Committee and a member of Entheogen Genome Project.  Scott discovered a new Florida mushroom species called Psilocybe niveotropicalis, as well as increasing understanding of the distribution of various species of fungi in the state of Florida. Scott is deeply enthusiastic about enlisting budding mycologists to contribute to mapping the biodiversity of fungi in Florida.  Scott Ostuni is a Sequence Validator for the Fungal Diversity Survey (FUNDIS). He has contributed to the FUNDIS Discussion Group on Facebook and the Mushroom Observer. If you'd like to donate to the efforts of Scott Ostuni and Kyle Canan's Ohio Mushroom DNA Lab:➡️ GoFundMe:  https://www.gofundme.com/f/ohio-mushroom-dna-lab➡️  Venmo:  @Kyle-Canan Scott Ostuni can be found at:➡️  Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/scott.ostuni➡️  Instagram:  https://www.instagram.com/scottostuni/➡️  iNaturalist:  https://www.inaturalist.org/people/scottostuni🌿 Support the MycoGeeky Community!
