From Scholar-Athletes to Global Impact

Ten years after being named Kansas City Star’s top scholar-athletes, Jenna Gray and Jacob Bohlken are living proof that excellence never ends. Jenna, once Kansas Gatorade Player of the Year, now plays pro volleyball in Italy, dominating the court overseas. Jacob, a multi-sport star from Smithville, traded the gridiron for the hospital, completing residency in family medicine and aiming for a sports medicine fellowship to become an athlete’s team doctor. Both credit their athletic grit for surviving the rigors of their current paths—Jenna soaring internationally, Jacob grounding himself in medicine while still covering sports events from high school games to marathons.
