From the Frontlines: ADL Helps to Pass Model Legislation to Counter Hate on Social Media

"From the Frontlines" is an ADL podcast. It is hosted by ADL New York/New Jersey Director Scott Richman and focuses on ADL's efforts to fight hate and antisemitism in the United States and around the world. In the battle against hate, social media has become a troubling frontline. Unlike traditional media, there are no legislative guardrails. That is, until this past summer when the California Assembly passed a landmark piece of legislation known as AB 587. Among other things, it requires social media companies to submit reports detailing violations of their policies which would then be publicly searchable. ADL played a major role in helping to pass this historic legislation, especially Kendall Kosai, Director of Policy for the Western Division of ADL. Kendall joined the show to discuss AB 587, how it can be a game changer and his hope that it will be adopted by other states.
