In this episode Hayley chats with Gary Carriere of Cumberland House.At 10,000km² the Saskatchewan River Delta is the largest such system in North America and a hidden gem. 80% of the Delta is wetlands that serve as critical breeding and migratory habitat for birds and wildlife, and shelter protected species such as the Lake Sturgeon. However, human-induced changes have profoundly altered the Delta from natural conditions. Dams and increased water demand along the Saskatchewan River change the volume and timing of river flows and restrict nutrients to the area which has led to a decline in ecosystem health and animal populations. As a consequence, people in the area can no longer depend on the traditional activities that once supported their livelihood.
