From the Throne to the Stage: King Tim Commerford and Tone Lōc Lead the Celebration

Wiregrass Daily News sat down with Mardi Gras King Tim Commerford and Parade Chair Andy McDuffie to talk about the upcoming Dothan Mardi Gras Parade and what attendees can expect this year. What began twelve years ago as a small neighborhood procession of golf carts in the Garden District has grown into one of the city’s largest annual events, now drawing crowds of nearly 50,000 people. Hosted by the Krewe of Kolosse, the parade rolls the Saturday before Fat Tuesday, starting in the afternoon and finishing after sunset to create both a daytime and illuminated nighttime experience. The route begins at Girard and Choctaw and winds through the Garden District before ending downtown near the Dothan Police Department. This year’s parade marshal is rapper Tone Lōc, known for his late 1980s hits Wild Thing and Funky Cold Medina, along with I Got It Goin’ On. Organizers estimate nearly $300,000 worth of beads, toys, moon pies, and other throws will be distributed, keeping the event festive, family-friendly, and one of Dothan’s most anticipated days of the year.
