From Tyke to Future Doctor | Hilonee’s 14 Year Journey with KOMA

In this episode of The KOMA Show, Master Ko sits down with Hilonee, a KOMA student of 14 years who just graduated high school and is headed into UMKC’s prestigious 6-year medical program. Starting KOMA Taekwondo at age four, Hilonee recounts her journey from a shy child afraid to kihap (diaphragmatic yell) in class, to a confident fourth-degree black belt leading classes, competing at state-level tournaments, and mentoring younger students. She reflects on how KOMA gave her the foundation for academic excellence—balancing a 4.76 GPA and a rigorous AP course load—all while teaching and training. More than physical skills, Hilonee highlights the powerful life lessons she gained at KOMA: confidence, discipline, time management, and the ability to lead and communicate effectively. Her story is a testament to the long-term impact martial arts can have on a child’s growth and future success.🎯 Parents—ready to see your child grow in confidence and focus like Hilonee?
