From UTRGV to Iowa The Boogeyman's Rise | Iowa Hawkeyes Football News

From redshirt to breakout star, Tony Diaz’s journey to Iowa is anything but ordinary. Drafted by UTRGV — a program that didn’t even play games yet — Diaz embraced the vision of coach Travis Bush, helping build a surprise 9-3 FCS season that earned him Freshman of the Year honors. With a nickname born from his elite route-running — “The Boogeyman” — and a tattoo that says “You Can’t Kill The Boogeyman,” Diaz’s swagger is real. After turning down offers from Alabama and Baylor, he chose Iowa for its culture and Ferentz’s player-development legacy. Now adapting to a West Coast offense, Diaz is laser-focused on making plays and helping his team win — because when the ball’s in the air, he’s not just going to get it… he’s going to own it.
