Frostbiter (1995)

from Horror Movie Night Hosted by Geekscape

We all love Troma ‘round these parts, but we often forget that Uncle Lloydie’s more than a director - he’s also a distributor of tons of underground films. Most are objectively bad, but not FROSTBITER (1990), this one is a total party. Take equal parts Raimi and Harryhausen, throw them in a pot and simmer for 8 (!) years, and you got yourself some chili… Better write 2 (!) original joke songs about said chili and use them for chili demon battles in your movie. It sounds insane, it is insane, it’s also incredibly entertaining and full of charm. Let’s go fishin' y’all!

That's how we protect Ontario for all of us Learn how at Ontario dot CA slash safer Ontario pay for by the government of Ontario Everybody we're back with another episode of horror movie night and this week we're talking about frostblighter Which was shot in 1988, but eventually got released in 1995.

Thank you These things go 1985 Dude this show Did you do on this because I did have one factoid before we dive into this I would say I would say launch your factoid Because we're going in I have more like personal Ants and connection than actual research So you go for it so the factoid that I learned about this first of all final budget of this entire movie was a hundred and twenty five thousand dollars Which is and dude cool to them because it looks so good. I mean like I'm not I'm gonna give this movie so much Positive feedback like it is you Kyle. This is one of the best ones you've ever picked for the show Well, I knew it was right for the show. I was so excited We'll dive into that so director Tom Shaney at the age of 25 wrote directed and produced the film under the title window Go and he invested 17,500 dollars of his own money to get the production started due to their limited budget Tom would place the undeveloped film in his home freezer until Kodak volunteered to develop it on a pay as you go planned with it So like this is like as scrappy as possible and I mentioned that we're gonna dive into this and like my letterbox review I wrote something along the lines of like at its best It is like super impressive practical effects and stop motion and at its worse It's still so charming at just how scrappy everybody is putting this thing together So you almost forgive moments where like the acting isn't the best or maybe the makeup on a character Is it like the the greatest you're just like yeah, but everybody is giving a hundred and ten percent into this Basically their friends crazy idea to make a movie over seven years like it's hard not to just love it Yeah, I was introduced to it through a friend of mine Chris Rossick who was part of get super rad who did so fade the light and We went to sound horror fest and he's a Michigan filmmaker.

He has partner our Michigan filmmakers and they have been super inspired and state in Connection with a lot of the Michigan regional filmmakers that are still there Tom still there like he still does stop motion effects He does other things of that nature. There's another filmmaker who's named completely escaped me other person go folks who did mosquito Yeah, I have a whole list of Michigan where he's not but the influence of Raimi is like So I mean that's the other big thing that comes up everywhere on the Wikipedia page is like Tom Saul evil dead and said I could make this I could also do this with my friends in the cabin Woods and I don't think you can do this without a drink by your side. No, you certainly got this guy and this movie as much as it's a questionable take on Native American first people Folklore it's just a haunted house movie at the end of the day so I have a Alakash on in house absolutely and I am not drinking for the foreseeable future So I have wits peak from athletic brewing ice because I was at my wits end on this one. It was so damn good Or I might wits peak I guess would be you're right your Then well I was a meme where like go down four sets of the brain and that last one is just like a neuron defiring It's that one or the exact same concept as the Vince McMahon meme With like a stoic anger like rolling in your chair with the link And so much so that that's how we got that white streak completely up the center of his head I see this oh, yeah, yeah, it's like it's like if the bride of Frankenstein abuse many people So crazy So frostbite or a movie that I Apparently had watched before So I haven't talked about this no it was I haven't talked about this in a really long time About 10 years ago when we first started our movie night a friend dropped off a bunch of binders of DVDs that his deceased friend Had gave him that he didn't want And I had a binder where I put the DVDs that I had watched in like I said it up So it was like two binders are still things that I hadn't watched and one is things I have and this was in the binder of Things I had watched so I guess at one point I popped this in But I don't think I was paying attention at all because I don't know how this didn't immediately jump to my like I need to get a Fizz I was literally on trauma dot com last night just looking which I'll tell you right now I don't know if it'll still be the case when this episode comes out.

There's a sale on trauma dot com right now where their DVDs are like a piece Strongly tempted to grab the frostbite I'm literally going there right now to buy a copy because this is something that I need to have a physical copy of like I you know like my my current my or until until right fucking now my current white whale VHS tape is scare crows 88 because I thought you guys I started like I went to the Yeah, I was like oh, yeah I'll come back and then I was in a hurry to get out of there for band practice I fucking forgot so that was my white whale like I need to find a copy of scare crows because there just are no copies on the internet And now I think of a just copy of frostbiteters has usurped scare crows both 1988 films although this did not it took seven years to get out an actual release but goddamn if if if anybody was ever on the fence about Trauma's value as a distribution company. Yes. Yeah, this is it Blood hook right but it's about fucking so good. I really hope for it I'm hoping for and I hope that maybe we've been able our way on to this somehow I would love a screen drafts of trauma releases like we can you know cuz they did that with um they did that with vinegar syndrome Yeah, they did that with vinegar syndrome and they did that with another any production company Was also in the cloud this trip would it be if you were to get on the screen drafts for this hypothetically Would it be including Lloyd directed things or strictly acquisitions at trauma?

So I think it could I think it could include Lloyd directed things honestly like I think that there's a world in which there's a good list Where it's not all you know seven Kaufman hits right? I think or you do something where it's like you can only have one Kaufman directed or one Toxie and one you know and then you go from there I had done that where they'll be like you can only have one Star Wars film from George Lucas I can only have one word of the rings Franchise film for the Peter Jackson rankings. Yeah, it's making a little complicated There are a lot of distributed films from but they did that with vinegar So I just feel like it's possible similarly to vinegar syndrome to wide gamut of really deep cut grates and absolute garbage Yeah, which is frostbite or is it has a Blu-ray release from vinegar? You know you're gonna drop a couple extra bucks on that but it's more on it because I if there's more oh, yeah The trauma wants a bare bones you might have a trailer on there I'm saying is there an extended cut of the movie on the blue.

Oh, you know, I don't know Behind the scenes footage there's footage from the Michigan premiere. There's the archival trauma intro and promo There's other promos there's an archival feature at and then there's a slew of new interviews an commentary track I think I got by that. I mean as much as I left drama Friday sale because it'll be out It'll be for sale in yeah pretty soon. Well, we've been chatting for 10 minutes about why everyone's just Listeners, I know you haven't fucking watch this.

It's on to be fucking watch it. You will not regret it It looks so cheesy, but it has so much charm It is so funny and so fun and I can't believe that it's not offensive like maybe it is offensive But it's like not yeah level of offensive that I was expecting it to be as far as you like it's cuz the when to go tropes I feel like it's because this guy was way more focused and rightfully so but like focused on showing off what he could do with special effects Sure like dive too deep into lore and stuff like that where it's like the lore is not bad like the big bad Which is cows background for the patreon that's not the worst like interpretation of a window go that I've ever seen Oh, no fucking antlers. I think the flip side of that is Someone who's not fully focused on I want to show off my special effects has to hide their special effects with plot and character Yeah, I just wear a little bit into like you can get into like a murky a murky path This is very much like I'm introducing the only characters that I need to introduce in order to have a display of what I at 25 I'm already doing with stop motion and practical. Yeah Dramatically different but Kyle this the stage is yours.

Yeah, tell us about this old man makeup that we see from frame number one and What happens in the movie frostbite before before bad grandpa before Johnny not so we had the guardian in in frostbite So frostbite opens up with an old man in a cabin narrating the lore of the when to go and revealing that he is the guardian in Has pretty much trapped this ancient evil and contained it over all these years hence being known as the guardian but this You know you can't stop drunk hunters from trespassing and getting violently angry as they sneak onto the guardian's property Shoot the human skull that is that that acts as the spiritual barrier between the world and where the way to go comes from and And then this these hunters get attacked or actually the hunter sorry kills the guardian shoots this old man I think it was an accident because he was like Yeah, but he was pretty fucking angry. Yeah, this this hunter for being not allowed to trespass It was kind of it was it felt very American and he he shoots the old man his friend is like oh no You're gonna be okay. You're gonna be okay in the Guardian is like the wind the wind to go And then listen I like right out seven minutes in Seven minutes in we get a bat shit skeleton attack a skeleton good attack a skeleton attack like I cannot emphasize enough And that's not gonna come to that because it starts with a full body meltdown. Yeah, yeah Like yeah, we go old man melt down to skeleton.

Yeah, that's true with that to me is probably one of the biggest moments where I'm like Oh, yeah, this is heavily influenced by the original evil Oh, we get a very similar stop motion melt in the end of that movie when they throw the book into the fire This was amazing like I was like immediately at this point. I was like all right You like my attention exactly yeah, yeah, dude big time big time It was it's and I saw and I've seen this before and I clocked it and I put it on the list But I mean the last time I must have watched this But anyway, I'll let you we cut to yeah me we cut back to the mainland that was on an island Manatee island by the way now that is an interesting little I think that that's an Easter egg because the manatee is a Graham master master turn right I'm pretty sure he did an entire series of manatee oops and they're incredibly racist Now but people in the retro horror paperbacks don't have a problem with that for some fucking reason But yeah, I think that is definitely a reference to The the manatee oops and also the folklore of the manatee yeah Yeah, yeah, they don't like aside from sort of just touching upon the name and then the design of the Wendigo We don't go into the lore all that much which I think is what makes it better so safe Yeah, right, you know It's just is like just taking the creature and the idea that these creatures are out here and are have existed out here for all these years It's kind of helpful and I also feel like that might be why trauma was like let's name this frost spider instead of the original name It's like not getting people going into it specifically being like oh, it's gonna be a window go movie Here's all of my window go knowledge that I'm ready to like You know I've pre-internet my guy like it's no one no one knows what the fuck that is I do want to give let's just give Uncle Lloyd some credit that he probably was like let's be a little bit more culturally sensitive I don't know maybe that's crazy. Maybe that's a reason I think that Lloyd has Always been more woke than he gives off and his compass has been right pretty much More often it's been wrong, you know Yeah, I was gonna say that because he's also one of those people where it's like you watch some of the trauma movies that might even something like Trevio and Julia which people could watch and be like this is so racist Homophobic, etc, and then it's like but the but the queers love it more than anybody else So yeah, even Lloyd must know exactly what he's doing with that sensibility because he's from that same school as a John Waters where it's like there is a way to do shocking offensive humor and it still be not punching down and like full of love and Lloyd has somehow figured out that at like 80 something years old still has this figure on the pulse of how to properly do that Which is crazy. It's only if only he could make some money.

Yeah Listen, he's doing all right his his wife is the New York film Institute president or something so Yeah, yeah, Pat she is I think she was part of charge in charge of the New York Film Commission for years I don't know if she's still there, but incredibly fucking wide He's living the dream because he's got a strong wife who's basically supporting his dreams Yeah, no kidding, but he's done he's done fine over there nothing that the host of this podcast can relate You know what's so funny though is that like if anybody were to take anything away from this episode It's that women have all the power and that's the way it's supposed to be like it's really yes men are are dumb Watch this movie. You'll see how dumb men are you'll see how dumb we thought this is one woman in this movie and she's very important The most powerful person could argue anyway. Yeah, let's get to this plane Because I want to talk about this is where we meet Sandy because she the Guardian the now dead guardian comes to her in a dream Or when she's awake who's to say and is like hey, it's your problem now So she charters a plane to man's island in this really gnarly storm and the pilot is like no and she's like 20 bucks And he's like sure so now they're flying this plane this to a person plane. We've got miniatures We've got a cabin of the airplane shot from the front We have a flying when to go dragon monster So this is I'm gonna say right now the window takes about ten different forms in this movie They're fantastic every time there is not a one out that is One others, but yeah, this was you like this was my second favorite to stop motion when to go Yeah, is this dragon creature it also just scratches that 1930s like robot monster plan nine from outer space itch of such an Obvious miniature fight like I'm like, yeah The snow and the snow is about the size of your fist, you know, it's you know, it's just I love it It's yeah, it's gorgeous Not only do you get these really great sort of almost nostalgic miniatures, but you get a full head ripping gore effect Yeah, you get an entire decapitation in this School and new school jazz is playing in the background Right down the line no I had to call out my title because I was Three times it's it's I like I like buckin a whore I like a buckin horse and I thought they said I like fucking a horse I thought that was the first line of the song I had to rewind it Too much we might do yeah, that is I was like trying to play this like rule of a limit like this game of elimination It's like he's not saying fucking but I can't stop here and him say I want to fuck a horse, okay So then that's playing crashes cut we're inter splicing this journey of sandy with a group of guys on this island in a cabin Getting drunk playing poker telling dirty jokes It's a grand old time and then they have a they have a friend who brings their friend To this sacred circle as they've called it it turns out that this friend is black and we have all a good laugh about everybody's Prejudice against this black man.

It's it's but kind of weird because it's like it's very it's it felt Maybe this is wrong, but to me it felt like they understood that it was there what they're doing is they're making fun of racists They're like I'm fucking racist and like the black guys like oh you don't want me here because of my skin color And he's like I'm out here. No, no, I don't know. I don't know. He just yeah light-hearted So okay quick quick geekscape lore and the long history of geekscape and trauma is like in 2006 I want to say Jonathan made a short film called gay by dawn that he was said was I hard short for homophobes and Lloyd has been like when are we gonna make the full-length version of this since he's all that short because I think it's the same thing that Lloyd Season this scene.

I think you're not incorrect. It is not celebrating that no idea It is punching down at the people who think like that and that's like where you walk that line But I think it's like one of those things where it's like because the scene runs long and the acting's a little wonky It's like you just start to like the line starts to blur a little bit It's so not clear cut but light-hearted. I think it's a great term like it's in keep in mind if they shot this in 1988 this feels a little ahead of its time for that type of like pointing out racism punching down thing That's a to me. That's a very 90s trope more than an 80s trope an 80s trope is just straight races Yeah, I was trying to think like police Academy and I'm like police Academy even from my memory having not watched any of it in 20 years easily Is not punching is not like light-hearted.

It's just very revenge of the nerds kind of racist, right? It's that's what I mean, and that was still the level of racism in homophobe normally by 1988 So again, I got applaud Tom Cheney here because this you know in 1995 I probably felt like you've seen it a million times But like maybe this is kind of a fresh take on racism and punching down on the racists more than the race Oh, yeah, and he gets he gets one over in this great joke telling scene With that the that he tells and so the gang all gets together and they party they play poker they read porno mags It's a grand old time as they unknowingly or as the the wind to go is flying around and coming back to the islands for various reasons I guess so they all pass out drunk high They all have the munchies when all of a sudden that hunter that surviving hunter bursts in and is warning them all that some shit Is about to go down and they're like whatever, dude, and they don't know this guy But they're like whatever man, and we're gonna make some food so some fucking chili and Let like not only so I'm gonna not only is there a chili monster not only does that chili monster chomp off the hand of This man, but there's an accompanying original song that also uses the riff for Princess kiss Yes, I heard it and I thought that my tick-tock was on because I was like it's like At the very beginning I'm like what I'm like that can't be in this movie and I'm like did somebody add it when they did the Uploaded to be no because it happens a second time with the second chili song because there are two distinct chili songs in this fucking movie There's two yep, yeah, they're sure are because that chili monster has another fucking offensive attack later on a movie and that song plays again It's like we do get to a different song there are two things songs That's what's crazy it's a different chili monster song Yeah, if you thought because that first one I remember not fully hearing that it was a song about the chili because I think Prince's kiss riff it's just really percent of the chili but that second one oh Man it lyrically it is it is poignant Oh, yeah, I don't have the lyrics right now You have no, but I mean like the conceit of it is it's a man singing very poorly about chili and all the things that it will not have in it Yeah, chili without beans chili without crackers chili without beef or whatever any My god like this movies music is such an elevating part of the experience I can't imagine being a hundred percent drunk or high watching this I would lose my fucking mind It was it's insane It's insane it's an insane movie and so that like immediately after that there is no rest for the fucking wicked here because then we get a Centerfold come to life infiltrate the cabin strip naked and then become an old wench who want like they're not like They're not punny one liners, but they are she bats back to everything that's thrown her way dialogue wise with something witty or rude or anything You know great banter so the way you the one the the remaining original hunter the guy that killed the Guardian goes They're trying to punch her to death which is you know not the smartest way to fight an undead snow witch But she she very much is getting punched or she's punching them around in very evil dead type shots Which is I loved and and the remaining original hunter goes want to dance and she goes maybe it's been a while so yeah, just head scratching the way that they put this movie together because I Us explaining it it sounds lame, but it's not right. It's the best. No, it's not no.

No, it's not No, and you know, there's a clear evil that to poster in fighting scene, too It's just like it just wears it just wears its heart on its sleeve But then also just does the craziest shit So also wasn't that people dead 287 so this maybe was made literally on the heels of that movie coming out in theaters Yeah, that's not unless the scene, you know, but this is made over seven years So maybe the scene gets filmed, you know, 91 or something, you know, like where you know, I don't know where it lands But it's man and then so you know, they get her with a pitchfork She but then she disappears because that's not how you kill a win to go And the next morning the gang splits up to try to find one of the people slash oh cuz Sandy comes in And no, it's not here. Yeah, sorry, but next morning the gang splits up. It does it is a little hard to It's you know what it feels exactly like a movie that took seven years to finish with film canisters in a freezer Yes Yes, yes, correct Their searching for help Our friend without a hand is is drunk and high on painkillers Everybody's sort of injured in some way They find the pilot in the wreckage of the plane that headless pilot spotty comes back to life and is flailing and gets the reprise of his song And the other two find who they find a hypothermic teenager is what they call her And then we got to a news segment about the missing plane I think she's like this had have been the last part that they act right it has been but like Man for all the things that Tom Cheney was able to knock out of the park This felt like a black box theater play of a Movie Let bees shitty little vignettes ruin my experience So I literally fast forward through all of them because I did not care and I would highly recommend anybody watching this if you're not Friends just fast. Yeah, you're strapped in for it's funny because when you put the movie into a DVD player It says that it's 83 minutes long But by the time the closing credits star role in your 76 minutes into it.

Yeah, it's got it's not like nine or ten minutes They sure yeah watch but it's that's not a baby. No, it's it's it's not it's not time for me It does crank like it does move you know there's a couple segments that like this new segment whatever but it won't you kick back up man We're moving you know there's a chill this is where after immediately after this is the chili monster reprise that we already discussed You know we got another chili monster who's not as chili based it looks a little more sleek and maybe it took a shower Rolled in the snow or something before it started attacking people It's not quite as a messy about chili monster, but it comes back and we lose a couple more people There's there's another good cabin melt not as good as the skeleton, but there's another friend who is he's eating melt Or is he more like decaying? There's like a bunch of there's a bunch of rapid succession deaths at this point kind of like trying to race to the finish line There is one of the things again We talk about like the things that scratches this nostalgia in our brain and there's this beautiful Ray Harry How's in S moment around this point where the wind to go gets one of the guys and it's like cut from practical giant hand grabbing actor Yeah, stop motion monster holding stop motion person and like killing him and I'm like oh it just scratches this part of your brain When you're watching like a Jason the Argonauts or a clash of the Titans and you see that claymation human kicking in the hands of the Claymation monster Of the human to monster are not insane like you know the monster's big But it's not like King Kong big like it is it is sort of like if you saw I would say it's almost like giraffe elephant It's well, I mean looking at the picture of you. It's about the size of the cabin like it's roughly the size of the house So maybe elephant like yeah, like it's crazy.

The thing's crazy. It's a great. It's a great monster We see that a couple we see that a few more times that is our final form of the monster But the way to go appears in a couple other forms including the guardians mother returning and then she starts to melt and then she has Six arms that try to wrap up her daughter. That was great There's a there's a frozen body on March of the undead ring of skulls that starts to happen March of the dead song that plays is So fucking good.

I want I want a soundtrack of this so badly. I don't know if it's I don't know if it exists I don't know if it's possible. I know if it's possible I know it's for the the for the one chili song the first chili song Yeah, not streaming anywhere not on YouTube nowhere the second one about like the chili with no whatever in it is on YouTube But okay, I mean I it's funny because you go to the Wikipedia or I'm sorry I'm DB for this movie and they say On the soundtrack and I'm like does that mean that there was an actual soundtrack Are you literally just saying the movies that was song was or in the movie because I'm thinking it's probably songs that were in the movie The only way that there is a soundtrack is a vinegar syndrome put it out with the Blu-ray Which based on what you read they did not know not yet these things happen next every every month They said I knew released and say I've been doing some VHS. They've been doing some soundtracks.

Maybe let's hope Let's let's everybody write them a letter But I will I will distinguish some chili songs probably for our social media because this can't this cannot go unheard Yeah, and my humble opinion so there's oh and then they use the mark to the end the ring of skulls to defeat the beast and it send It back to a this but whole entrance looking hell It's great we get this sort of he's not dead ending but you know we never get it We never get a sequel to the frostbite here And I think that's it I feel like I just get over maybe one or two skeleton based incarnations of the wind to go But they're all very good and and when it sort of turns from this get rid of all the friends to this final girl moment There's some good carnage that that is worth watching to so that's frostbite her wrath of the wind to go hell Yeah between 1980 and 1995 It is 30 years old this year officially Years release for sure the scotium momentum visa infinite plus card gives me 15% cash back for the first three months up to $300 with cash like that I can stream out free because I've got enough Distractions conditions apply scotia bank you're richer than you think Care for your skin like you care for the game dove men plus care is an official sponsor of the FIFA World Cup 2026 and has just dropped their new limited edition deodorant and anti-perspent collection for 72 hours sweat and odor protection helping you stay fresh From kickoff to the final whistle visit dove.com slash CA slash EN slash men dash care to shop now When you're a mid-sized business, you need every competitive advantage you can get like an AI solution that works for you Not against you SAP grow is built with AI embedded at its core working across every system and it's ready to go from day one So you can hit the ground running bring it with SAP grow AI cloud ERP for any size business My name is Peter Parker, but I'm also a spider-man This do I replace with a threat that could be anyone the world may have forgotten Peter Parker I'm just a neighbor family neighbor. What's the next feature? So there is it is also released by vinegar syndrome and maybe by trauma before that but there is a film called winter beast Which is actually I saw winter beast before frostbite her and that is what got the frostbite a recommendation was because I was really in love with Winter Beast I is like a regional indie sort of film that gets released in the late 80s early 90s.

Great. I don't think that was a trauma one I have probably three different copies of winter beast because it was one of those it was one of those movies that I think was like So unwanted for a while that anytime you bought like a 50 horror movies box set like winter beast was always one of those 50 titles So like I think it was on every like horror collection DVD set that I ever approached It was great It was released in at home grown horrors box set for vinegar syndrome and it's upgraded looks fantastic And if you like creatures regional filmmaking stop motion nonsense, it's so damn good Yeah, that's my that's my double feature. How about you go Scott? I have three options right now in front of me.

I have a lot Because I actually have a conversation with you guys about how many movies are either based and Written to be a rate based in and filmed in Michigan or one of the two But I guess if I was really gonna go with like a Michigan movie that's heavy on the SFX I'm gonna go with mosquito just because both of them are just so charming you get a summer in winter. How's that? There you go. That's nice.

I'm stepping away from Michigan But I'm going for another like charming Independent film that trauma put out that involved just a scrappy young filmmaker of all the options I am trying to be I'm going with There's nothing out there. Oh, yeah For this I think they serve the same master It's just very similar small budget took forever to get finished scrappy filmmaking that I love I also I also wrote down rock and roll nightmare because when she fully becomes the guardian it really does have a we accept the challenge Yeah, yeah, I can accept this too. That was one of my yeah That was one of my not disc art for a double feature And then kind of a deeper cut I wouldn't even thought to write this down if I hadn't done that 31 films of Halloween project on geekscape something We'll never talk about on the podcast Drawing flies. Have you either of you ever seen or heard of this?

No, it is and it is I believe it is the first Independent film that Kevin Smith produced after clerks It's just about a guy who goes out into the woods with his friends to find Bigfoot But it just there was like a lot of things that scratched a similar vibe It's worth watching because it's like a it's only like an hour long It's from 1995 it's shot in black and white and when I was rewatching and I'm like this reminds me of Blair Witch like it feels it feels like it owes a lot to Blair Witch or Blair Witch owes a lot to this because this was 95 in Blair Which was 99 yeah? Oh, no, not a great movie Just people roaming around in the snow looking for a creature. I was like this is reminding me a little bit of drawing flies I almost bought it at a use bookstore and that's the best time to buy show and I'm like down even bother $3 it's worth putting in your collection, but don't pay top dollar for it Alright, well unless anyone has other discarded double features that will throw out there I don't have other double features, but I just wanted to just give you guys a little a small list that I assembled of other Michigan movies Yes, it follows obviously evil dead and Ashra's evil dead is in the fake town of Elk Grove in Michigan And evil dead itself is was filmed partially in Michigan They have some Tennessee so some people are gonna argue about that But obviously mosquito the carrier from 88 which is so bad. I watched it for the show, but we didn't discuss it right?

Or did we just we didn't discuss it? We we did not discuss it as a selection, but we talked about how it was not going to be selected It's just because it's yeah, okay. Deathbed is it was filmed in Detroit or maybe it was based in Detroit I still haven't seen the whole thing so barbarian obviously sent in Detroit children of the night HMM royalty right there That's Detroit. I think it's Detroit.

It's in Michigan Jeepers creeper is which I mean fuck the directories terrible but based in Michigan the crow is Detroit I had never even thought about that. Oh, yeah, the wretched from 2019 which is an okay movie But it was filmed in Michigan Don't breathe is is a Michigan movie. Yeah, and then honorable mention blood hook I think I've said before that is upper peninsula of Michigan is actually upper minutes peninsula of Wisconsin where it was filmed in Based so I just want to set the record straight there. I'm gonna add one more to your list.

So fade to the light Oh hell yeah, there we go There's the regional filmmaking there in Wisconsin has a ton of other regional filmmaking to that would be a fun one to venture More into as well because they're fucking critical. So the motherfuckers are crazy on the topic of Gracelessly self-promoting things. I'm gonna jump into another one here Don't forget to leave should be available on hoopla now with a binder card at the recording of this So the Amazon web services went down and there was an outage and a movie is not available at the time that we had said that It was going to be available, but by now it should be available for you to watch on hoopla digital if you have a library card So I highly recommend getting yourself a library card because it's incredibly useful not just to watch this film But it's a great way to just be involved in your local community and have access to a library But then you also have ag most libraries will have access to hoopla digital Which is a streaming service it has audio books it has TV shows it has movies and it has our documentary Don't forget to leave so that is where you can immediately check out the film and then we hope to have other places for you to check it out later Well other things that are worth noting as next Friday will be the geekscape holiday livestream Tacular 24 hours of entertainment from midnight to midnight Eastern Standard Time. There will be a horror movie night segment It is a pre-taped segment.

It's actually from patreon almost a whole year ago now when I made Kyle and Scott listen to the werewolf musical That I had written in eighth grade. I've held on to the video file of that ever since because I knew I knew where it needed to be shown So stay tuned for that among a bunch of other cool ideas that have been kicked around including Rankin the Rankin We're gonna try to rank the 17 Christmas specials that Rankin and Bass made throughout 30 years And some of them are insane you can support the show by going to hmm podcast dot dash re dot com get a shirt any style You want go to our website hmm and podcast calm to see our back catalog head over patreon dot com back slash hmm Podcast and choose an email at hmm and podcast at gmail.com if you want to be part of our newsletter lastly before we wrap it up Everybody Kyle what did you watch or you listen to etc that you want to talk about? You had watched it and talked about it before but I finally got around to watching he be gbtv Oh, yeah, I believe is available on more platforms than just screen box now But that was where I originated and just on the topic perfect movie to bring that up on it was almost my double feature And I was like I'm gonna talk about it anyway So I figured I should some more love to win or beast but and still be able to talk about he be gbtv Really really loved it. I think that on the topic of yeah on topic of independent filmmaking I mean for people who made this for like I think I think Eli told me it was under ten thousand dollars It was something crazy and it's just right it's a tattoo artist man.

Yes. Yeah, there was there was three directors on it And let me just give you their names Eric Griffin and Jake McClellan and there was somebody else So forgive me for that third director, but letterbox won't let me look the other one so but it's it's it's it's in the vein I would say it's not quite an anthology. It's more in the vein of something like the out there mega Taper WNUF But it also is like its own thing because it's about an alien type creature that comes down and has it has landed with these he be gbtv transmitters like direct TV boxes that just show up on people's doors and people tune into them and Basically by the end of it we're talking about like an invasion film, but it starts out as a wacky like horror vignettes silly TV thing and it's really I was I was very impressed I said on my review that each segment ups and gets better as it goes It just like out does itself over and over again, and I really recommend if you're into you know It's not it's not scary. You can see the strings like you can see all these but it's a blast I was really really pleasantly surprised by it.

So that was he be gbtv. Yeah very charming movie Yeah, Scott how about you go I watched finally I watched together 2025 Allison breed Dave Franco. Have you guys watched again? I'm not saying I didn't know it was available to watch big fucking recommend.

It's so gross But it's also I don't think it could have worked without Allison and Dave being married like it feels very intimate it also hits a lot of comedic beats because Allison is hilarious like first of all she's a comedic actress and I mean I think Dave is too, but like I know a lot less of his material and It's just a really really good movie. I I had been putting off watching I was like maybe Megan would want to watch it, but then I'm like it's probably too gross. It's too gross It is Yeah, don't eat before watching it. It's not quite as gross as bring her back, but it is still quite gross in a delightful way It's it's body horror.

So what do you expect right? Very very good. I recommend it's I have to think about the other Movies that I've from 2025 that I've watched this year, but it's definitely up there top two yeah Yeah, wow all right, okay I'll wait to watch that then I watched the naked gun the newest in the naked gun franchise I saw that it had dropped on I want to say HBO Max, but maybe Paramount plus they all bleed together But what is this it sounds a lot like having more than three channels? Yeah, it's like it's crazy It'd be a lot easier if they just put it all in a little box Yeah, if only it was just like a thing with a remote and like scheduled times for things to come out But anyway, I watched the naked gun.

It's fine if you're a big fan of the original naked gun trilogy You're gonna love it They nail the tone to its perfection from like in the first I want to say the first minute of the movie They do one of those classic Frank Drevin grabs an actual cumin And then it cuts to the fakest rag doll body double cuminly possible getting lit up with bullets and like the fluff is going everywhere And it's like okay, they know exactly what they're doing I will spoil exactly one joke because I can't stop using this quote throughout the day You can go movies there's always these like inner monologues from Frank Drevin that always have just like classic lines of dialogue And when he sees Pamela Anderson's character for the first time he says she had a butt that would make a toilet seat beg for the brown But it's such a disgusting line of dialogue, but it like that made me laugh. I love that so hard But yeah, it's a good time. It's also again short. It's like 85 minutes, which is like I've heard other people say this on podcast I'm gonna say save damn thing.

No comedy needs to go past 90 minutes I don't care how fucking funny you think you are like no one no one's about your two and half hour comedy nobody so Speaking of no one wanting to watch a long comedy. It's time to wrap up hard movie night tonight But we'll be back next week with even more hard movie night good You
