FSM 395: Cottage Food Law: Selling Jams and Jellies from Home

Did you know Washington State Cottage Food Law allows approved individuals to prepare and sell certain low-risk foods, including jams and jellies, from their home kitchens directly to consumers. To operate legally, obtain a cottage food permit from the state. Follow specific food safety requirements using approved ingredients and processes to ensure safety and quality. For example, if you’re a vendor at a Farmer’s Market, you must package and label jams and jellies, including required information such as the product name, ingredients, net weight, and a statement indicating the food was produced in a home kitchen. Annual sales are limited under Washington law. These regulations help protect public health while supporting small-scale food entrepreneurs throughout Washington.
