FSOC: October 25, 2010

This is the Halloween edition of the Far Side of Country. For this show I used an internet music streaming site (Grooveshark. It has what appears to be an unlimited catalogue of songs), and unfortunately on several occasions it took what seemed like hours to load the song. Because of this you will encounter several uncomfortably long periods of dead air (probably not more than 30 seconds in the most extreme case). If you listen closely you can hear me sigh in frustration several times. Enjoy, Halloween Parade: Lou Reed Monster Mash: Hayseed Dixie O'Death: Ralph Stanley Helter Skelter: Carolyn Alroy Chocolate Jesus: Tom Waits I Put a Spell on You: Screamin' Jay Hawkins Angel of Death: Hank Williams Science Fiction Double Feature: Rocky Horror Picture Show Voodoo Cadillac: Southern Culture on the Skids War Pigs: Hayseed Dixie Werewolves of London: Grateful Dead Time Warp: Rocky Horror Picture The Perfect Country and Western Song: David Allen Coe Highway to Hell: Hayseed Dixie Sympathy for the Devil: Bryan Clark and Honeywagon

Peacock Pie: A Book of Rhymes by Walter de la Mare (1873 - 1956) LibriVox These wonderful, whimsical poems from the incomparable Walter de la Mare describe the bliss of childhood, explore the marvel of a child's imagination and portray the intriguing landscapes of existences both lived and imagined by a young mind in a magical kingdom located somewhere between daydream and caprice. In these poems we experience aspects of a reality unencumbered by concern, unhindered by anxiety, and share an imagination free to wander, ponder, contemplate, envision and express itself in a marvelous mosaic of impression, inspiration and introspection. The wisdom and wonder of childhood is brought to life in these poems by an expert in the field of the fancy and fanciful. In the words of Walter de la Mare himself, these are poems that "echo the far-away calling of children, Magic hath stolen away." - Summary by Bruce Kachuk
