FTCC: The Podcast Ep 8 "Paul Miller: Hall of Fame HS Coach from Minnesota"

In episode eight of Football Talk with Coach Chip: The Podcast, we talk with Paul Miller of Minnesota. Coach Miller is a member of the Minnesota Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame, has been coaching for over 50 years, and is still coaching. Coach Miller is a 1968 South Saint Paul High School graduate who lettered in football, basketball, and baseball. After graduation, he enrolled at the University of Minnesota–Morris. He graduated from Morris in 1973 with three majors and won three letters on the football team, helping lead them to a conference championship. As a senior he won the football team’s Golden Helmet Award. Later, Miller returned to school enrolling at Mankato State University. In 1985, he completed his master’s degree in physical education with an emphasis on athletic administration. He had a variety of high school head coaching assignments, which included the following schools: Beardsley, Dover-Eyota, Jordan, Burnsville, South Saint Paul, and Apple Valley. His longest time was at Apple Valley, where he coached from 1980 to 1996. At Apple Valley, his teams won the state championship in 1986 and 1993. His teams have also won six conference and seven section championships! He was honored as Section Coach of the Year seven times and was the Minnesota Class AA 1993 Coach of the Year. In 1985 he was named the KARE 11 Coach of the Year as well. In 1987, Paul was inducted in the Apple Valley Hall of Fame. That year, he was named head coach in the state all-star football game. His career high school record is 171 – 80. In addition to coaching high school football, Miller coached at the college level. He was a head coach at St. Olaf, Hamline, and the University of Minnesota-Crookston. At each of these schools, Paul helped revive their football programs. Coach Miller is a well-known and prominent speaker on the clinic circuit. He has published several coaching articles. He has been an MFCA member and served on the Academic All-State selection committee. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with family and friends and studying football.
