FTNCI 064: Objectivism Book Study (Week 06) — Perception and Focus

from For the New Christian Intellectual

The Objectivism Book Study is meeting through 2022 to study Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand, by Leonard Peikoff. This week the reading was: Ch. 2 – The perceptual level as the given 52-54 Ch. 2 – The primary choice as the choice to focus or not 55-62 “It is the mark of an educated man to look for precision in each class of things just so far as the nature of the subject admits.” ~Aristotle, Nicomachean Ethics How much precision can we have in our concepts? We should not demand more precision than a given subject allows; but we should not settle for less than that. How can we know we have obtained the proper level of precision? You will know you have obtained it when your knowledge is organized into principles and your principles are integrated into a reality-oriented, internally consistent whole. That is what we are seeking together in the Objectivism Book Study. In this, our sixth meeting, we are continuing our discussion of chapter 2, the anteroom of epistemology. This week our topics are: -The perceptual level as the given -The primary choice as the choice to focus or not Listen to the podcast in the player below, or view the video here.
