The Objectivism Book Study is meeting through 2022 to study Objectivism: The Philosophy of Ayn Rand, by Leonard Peikoff. Welcome to the Objectivism Book Study (Week 11) — Objectivity. This week, the reading was: Ch. 4 – Objectivity (Introduction) 110 Ch. 4 – Concepts as objective 111-116 ==> Click here for the full discussion on YouTube “We need to learn not only when (and when not) to form concepts, but above all, once they are formed, how to use concepts properly in the quest for knowledge.” That is how Leonard Peikoff concluded the last section in the reading. The main question for this reading is: Now that we know what concepts are, what are the principles for forming concepts? The rest of this book amounts the answer to that question, but these next sections deal with the purely epistemological foundations. Once we have the principles for forming objective concepts, we will be better equipped to look at the main concepts of philosophy, including concepts about man and human relationships, government, and art. Together, these concepts form the basis of a consistent and integrated system of beliefs. That is something philosophy is uniquely suited to help us achieve.
