Full House: S3E11: Aftershocks

from Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast · host Angela Bowen

Hey Tanner Fans, Angela Bowen here, the host of Oh My Lanta Holy Chalupas: An Unofficial Full House Fuller House Podcast ‪Hey Tanner Fans,‬ ‪Today, I covered Full House S3E11: Aftershocks, which aired on December 8, 1989. ‬ ‪In this episode an earthquake hits the Tanner home and Stephanie is struggling with the constant fear of losing her father.‬ ‪ I’m going to be honest, this episode is not your usual light and fluffy fun Full House Episode, the episode focuses on one of the main character’s of the show, middle child 8 year old Stephanie played by Jodie Sweetin who is suffering from PTSD due a recent earthquake. This is a side of Stephanie we have never seen before. While everyone else has moved on from this event Stephanie can’t move forward, living with the day to day constant fear of losing her father. This was all set in motion when Danny was 3 hours late the day of the earthquake and the family was unable to get a hold of him. Stephanie begins to follow her father around the house, sleeping in his bed so she can make sure he’s ok and knowing where he is at all times, she asks to come to work with him and when he refuses, she invites him to school. Jesse and Joey voice their concerns of Steph’s clinginess to Danny who brushes it off and chalks it up to simple adoration. When Danny has to leave the house to go to a no kids allowed work dinner Stephanie breaks down begging Danny not to leave. Now he is faced with the fact that something is seriously wrong with Stephanie. Joey and Jesse tell Danny this problem with Stephanie is not going away and it’s getting worse, he needs to seek professional help. I understand Danny’s hesitation, admitting outside help for him probably makes him feel like he’s failing as a father. Luckily, a child psychologist is able to help diagnose Stephanie’s fears through a family picture Stephanie drew and they put together a list of how to cope and move forward in the healing process. I feel Stephanie’s fear of losing Danny also stems from the fact that she lost her mother. The only piece of info we have from that day is in an episode of Fuller House where DJ mentions that Stephanie hid in her room and refused to come out when she learned of Pan’s death. I wanted to cover this episode, because of what’s currently going on in California, and the effects that earthquakes can have on people. The physical and the mental aspects. We all handle trauma in our own way. PTSD is real. You can’t run from it and you can’t deny it. Jodie Sweetin knocked it out of the park with her acting. My heart goes out to you California.‬ Have a great week everyone and be safe!
