Full House: S5EE7: The Volunteer (In Honor of World Alzheimer's Day September 21)

from Looking Back On My Wonder Years: A Wonder Years Podcast · host Angela Bowen

Happy Full House Friday Everyone, Angela Bowen here, the host of Oh Mylanta Holy Chalupas: An Unofficial Full House Fuller House Podcast. Today, in honor of World Alzheimer's Day on September 21, 2021 I decided to cover Full House S5E7: The Volunteer, which aired on October 29, 1991. In this episode DJ befriends an elderly gentleman named Eddie when she volunteers at a nursing home and invited him to her home to help judge a dog trick contest. Jesse and Becky have a bet going that he can't last 24 hours in a pregnancy sympathy pad the winner gets to choose the wallpaper for the nursery. I liked this episode. I felt so bad for Eddie, being that he doesn't get out of the nursing home very often although I wasn't a fan for how he took advantage of DJ just to sneak out of there. I found out that there are ways for a man to experience the pains of child birth through a simulation via a clinic. Granted I don't think it was available in 1991. As far as a pregnant man, which is what Eddie is surprised by most when he and DJ enter her house and see Jesse with a pregnancy sympathy pad, but you can't see it under Jesse's XL Tshirt with the words Bun In The Oven printed in black bold type on the front. In 2008, a man took the media by storm when he revealed that he was pregnant. Thomas Beatie. A man who had transitioned from a woman and still had the reproductive organs to be able to carry a child to term. To cap off the episode I wanted to showcase a couple of performances of Alzheimer's Storylines in other TV Shows. The first is from Mr. Belvedere S3E2: Grandma, which aired on October 3, 1991. In this episode Wesley makes friends with an elderly woman at a retirement home, but soon finds out the shocking truth about her: She has Alzheimer's disease. and the last one is from The Golden Girls S3E1: Old Friends, which aired on September 19, 1987. In this episode Sophia befriends an elderly man who suffers from Alzheimer's disease. Join me next week when I cover Full House S1E10: Joey's Place, which aired on December 4, 1987 in honor of Dave Coulier's (Joey Gladstone) Birthday, September 21). In this episode Joey fears that the family doesn't need him anymore when they give him a too-joyful send off. But in reality, they are planning a way to surprise him with space of his own. Meanwhile, Jesse learns that Joey's job as child care provider and housekeeper is not an easy one. Have a great weekend everyone! To EMAIL The Podcast GO TO: [email protected]
