FUNK AND NEW JAZZ MIX

from DJ Fase's podcast · host DJ FASE

Anyone that truly knows me or has seen my record collection, knows that as much as I'm a Hip Hop head, I love my Jazz! I wish I could play jazz a lot more, but it seems a lot of people can't really wrap there heads around it. Dame shame! This is another early evening set recorded at my long running Footwork Tuesdays (I play the real good shit before it gets too busy). It's about 45 minutes the first half is on the funkier side of things and the second half gets really jazzy. Everything played here was recorded in the last few years (give or take), except "Spinnin" by Bernard Wright, the Gladys Knight vocals of the "Grapevine" Remix and "Keep Her Happy" by Phillip Wright. This might surprise you, as it should, but don't let it defer you from giving it a good listen. Good Funk and Jazz is still being made, just go out and find it! FYI It's Questlove (from 'The Roots') on the drums in the "I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Sympathy For The Grapes Mix)" Dig it! Track Listing: 1. The Traveller Pt 2/The Haggis Horns 2. Spinnin'/Bernard Wright 3. I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Sympathy For The Grapes Mix)/Gladys Knight & The Pips 4. Panama City/Quantic Soul Orchestra 5. Keep Her Happy/Phillip Wright 6. Freedom/Nostalgia 77 7. Human Nature/Youngblood Brass Band 8. The Blessing Song/Shirley Eubanks Ensemble 9. Orange/The Delta Rhythm Section 10. Trading Eights/The Five Corners Quintet 11. Lucky Luciano/Quasimode 12. Waltz For Goddess/Soil And Pimp Sessions
