Funkier Radio Episode 88 - Jay-Kay Guest Mix

The universe did its best to scupper this episode, with a no show from my scheduled guest and a corrupted USB stick nearly spelling the end. But somehow it prevailed, with a rushed reformatting and partial reloading of the USB and an heroic last minute effort from my replacement special guest. More on that in a minute. My half of the show was heavy on the promos, with new sounds from Folkness, Dr Packer, Ken@Work, The Magic Track, Dexter Jones, TURF as well as an absolute blinder of a track from Magnolia that’s about to drop on The Disco Express. I also road tested a couple of bits that I’ve been busy with in the studio over the last week or so. We very nearly ended up with two hours of me as the guest I had lined up let me down, but fortunately I was rescued by an up and coming DJ from Duisburg, Germany. Jasmin, AKA Jay-Kay is the fiancee of fellow Disco Walton DJ BK, and she very kindly stepped in at a moment’s notice to save the day. She’s new to DJing but already getting out there with various guest mix appearances, including one with DJ BK just the day before this one for The Disco Waltons Sunday Service. Despite being new to the game Jasmin has mixed up a treat for us, with selections covering disco, chunky retro boogie, chugging spacey nu-disco, some Madonna, some Chaka Khan, even some Prince… what a lovely selection! I’m hugely grateful for Jasmin for volunteering at such short notice and saving everyone from two hours of me, and I love the fact that she’s so willing to practise and put her mixes out there despite being a relative newcomer. Can’t wait to meet her at ADE in a couple of months!
