Further calls for re-establishment of rail network across Donegal
Calls are being made for the re-establishment of the rail network across Donegal.There were over 300km of tracks in the county up until the final lines closed in 1959.The West Ulster Rail Initiative envisions connecting the West coast up to Donegal going from Derry to Letterkenny, continuing through the gap to Sligo and Galway before extending to Limerick and Cork.They also suggest connecting to Northern Ireland through Dundalk, Monaghan, Omagh and Strabane. The WURI is hosting an AGM on Wednesday next the 10th of September in the Station House Hotel, Letterkenny at 7.30pm.Spokeperson, Reverend David Crooks, believes redeveloping the lines for the North West is "obvious" and highlights the potential benefits.
