Leo Lucassen, hoogleraar arbeids- en migratiegeschiedenis, heeft een optimistische kijk op migratie en dat maakt hem in het verhitte publieke debat geregeld tot de Kop van Jut. We moeten niet zo krampachtig doen over migratie, vindt hij, en mensen uit bijvoorbeeld het Midden-Oosten de kans geven hier te komen werken. Het is goed mogelijk dat we al die nieuwkomers straks hard nodig hebben in het vergrijzende Nederland met het schreeuwende tekort aan technisch geschoolde mensen en zorgverleners. Chris Kijne zocht Lucassen op en sprak met hem over zijn toekomstvisie op migratie: stel, hij was de belangrijkste migratieadviseur van het kabinet, wat zou zijn boodschap zijn?
