FW Ep 50 Money
from Father and the Wolves Hosted by B.T. Higgins
No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.Matthew 6:24 NIV Did you hear the one about the blind football player? It may be the setup to a great joke, but consider this for a moment. How could a blind man play football against sighted opponents? Imagine what that might look like. How long before he gets hurt? Could he successfully navigate the field? The opponents? We doom our kids to this existence when we don’t teach them about money. It is the most important skill for handling the day-to-day challenges of life. Kids need to understand financial principles. It’s as important to life as speaking, reading, and writing are to communication. Why don’t we teach economics and money management every year in school just like the Language Arts? We are foolish to believe kids will figure it out. The truth is most people are not financially educated. They repeat horrible, life-limiting financial mistakes over and over. Because they do not understand the cause of their money trouble, they consider it normal and inevitable. Imagine the advantage our kids would have with financial education? It wouldn’t be unlike a sighted footballer, playing against a field of blind opponents. That is not to say that I wish for others to remain blind, but most people won’t teach their kids about money, so in essence, they launch into life blind. Let’s start with the source material. What does the Bible have to say about money? The following is a biblical perspective on money curriculum. I highly encourage you to have weekly conversations with your kids, starting from age ten until eighteen using these verses. It will take you over two years to finish them all at this pace. Have your kids memorize the verse of the week after you have discussed it. Each week you should choose a verse from a different category to study the topic from all angles each month. When you finish, start again from the beginning. This time have them teach you what each one means. By the time they have finished the third cycle, the Scripture will be engrained in their minds. The wisdom in this list is more valuable than any college degree. Imagine if your kids could have all these Bible verses on board before they launched. Talk about bragging rights!
